On the Left: The City of Denver no longer used an observation car when I photographed the end of the train in the Denver Union Depot in 1957. The following year, however, a Milwaukee Road superdome was assigned to the train. At the bottom is a UP business car. On the Right: Interior of a Union Pacific heavy-weight diner that I explored in the Union Pacific Denver coach yards and the remaining photos were taken in the roundhouse area at East 40th Avenue and High Street in 1957, 1958 and 1959. These were the last Union Pacific steamer locomotives to run out of Denver.
Locomotive 805 was live in this roundhouse photo, assigned to Portland Rose train that ran from Denver to Kansas City. There must have been a diesel locomotive break down somewhere east of Denver as by this time, steam locomotives were no longer pulling the Portland Rose passenger train on a regular basis. |
