Colorado & Southern locomotive 900 was the last of the large freight locomotives of the 2-10-2 classification. During the summer of 1959, my friend John Fresques and I were able to photograph trains running between Denver and Cheyenne pulled by this big engine. The only color photo that survived (my slides were destroyed by a "Pentecostal preacher" who lived in Long Beach, California. I had stored them at her house while on a Naval cruise to the orient) is of the "Jim Ehrenberger Special" taken at Chugwater on July 12 1959. Only John and I were on hand to photograph C&S 900 on its final run to Cheyenne with a work train on July 20, 1959, and so this is the first time that photos of this occasion have been made available. |
