It was 1959 and I had been attending a two-month private school at San Miquel de Allende, Mexico. Steam locomotives were still in wide use in Mexico at that time, and I was able to get a few photographs of trains of the Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México (N de M).
The top three photos on the left I took at San Maguel de Allende on March 14, 1959. I hiked out a distance from the town's passenger station to photograph a work train as it passed. The last three photos on the left were taken at the big union station in Mexico City, as was the top photo on the right. The second photo on the right I took inside the fenced area where dead steam locomotives were stored, probably ready to be scrapped. I was quickly run out of that place by an irate guard. The final four photos on the right were taken of N de M 1451 working at Queretaro on April 11, 1959.
