Mary Ellen and I lived in Richmond, Virgina from 1997 to 2000. There is a rich heritage of African-American gospel music in Richmond, and we were blessed to have been able to partake in it, to expand our understanding of such a rich heritage and to help preserve it. The homes in the oldest Richmond neighborhoods are so compelling and constructed with such a rich architectual knowledge, that takes the breath away. Tucked into these neighborhoods are many African-American full gospel churches where we were able to witness the end of the great golden era of gospel music, such as the farewell concert of Richmond's famous "Harmonizing Four." Visit "Church Hill" on wikipedia.
