Mary Ellen and I have made two trips through the great coal-minining regions of West Virginia to photograph the beautiful and unique homes and to learn about the culture of the coal-mining communities that have produced the folk music of the region. Most of these photos were taken along Highway 16 between Welch and Mullens, West Virginia.
